Congressman Tom Tiffany’s Tax Plan Would Make Sales Tax Among Highest in the Nation and Gut Funding for Essential Programs

MADISON, Wis. — Last week, reporting revealed Congressman Tom Tiffany privately told supporters that he wanted to eliminate the state income tax entirely which would either nearly triple the sales tax to the highest level in the country or gut funding for essential programs — all while giving massive breaks to his wealthy donors. Eliminating the income tax would cut the state’s general fund nearly in half, meaning drastic fundingcuts for schools, healthcare, public safety, and property tax relief.

“Congressman Tom Tiffany is only interested in delivering another tax cut for his billionaire MAGA donors,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Emily Stuckey. “Congressman Tiffany’s tax scheme would further gut funding for underfunded schools and healthcare programs and nearly triple the sales tax on folks already squeezed by Congressman Tiffany’s cost-raising policies. Either way, Congressman Tiffany is delivering for billionaires at the expense of hardworking Wisconsinites.”
